The likeness of our being

Rev. Jeffrey Symynkywicz, February 6, 2011

We are One:
all likeness of our being
bears that mark;
our souls are carved deep
with the sign
of our eternal unity.

At times, we actually live our lives
so that this deeper reality flashes forth:
 We reach out and touch,
and in helping another soul,
we gather all the lost souls of Earth into our arms,

and re-mend our severed connections.

We are so kind at times,
as merciful as the One who made us;
we shine forth with the angelic powers
dwelling deep within our human souls.

But so often, still, we remain locked
in the illusion of our separation.
If we could only know
that our differences are but a bridge
for crossing unto truth,
not a wall to hide us from one another!

But that this gentle angel of kindness
lives in us at all is reason to rejoice;
that we reach out even when we do
gives us reason still to hope.

So, together, you and I,
let us join our hands, and build that bridge,
and walk together in all our joy and pain,
and find our way through the darkness, kept alight
by the holy fires that burn ever in our souls.
