The rains of grace

Rev. Jeffrey Symynkywicz, December 12, 2010

Like drops of rain, grace falls
in every living, breathing moment of our lives,
watering the parched soil of these barren souls,
and bringing to flower new miracles
of life abundant, refulgent, and holy.

If we run from grace, seeking shelter
under the lean-to of modern life,
covering our heads with man-made caps,
lest the rain spoil the affected image

we see but in a mirror dimly,
then don’t be surprised if the rain stops
and God goes elsewhere.

But free and open to the rain,
like the children we are,
we run barefoot through puddles
of grace and holiness,
splashing one another
with God’s love,
reveling in the gracious wetness
of it all;
soaked to the bone
by holiness;
swimming deep and fearlessly
in the eternal sea
of endless living, holy moments.
