Prayers for Holocaust Memorial Day

Rev. Jeffrey Symynkywicz, April 11, 2010

We pray this day for greater understanding among all people of the world.

Whatever our vision of faith, may we all grow in harmony with that holy convenant, whose most sacred name is Love and Compassion.

In the darkness of this world, may our lives shine forth as living candles of faith and hope and meaning.

May we, created all in the likeness and image of the divine,
give thanks to the hand of life for the wonderful diversity of races and cultures in this world.

May our own lives be enriched by ever-widening circles of inspiration and understanding;

May we sense most clearly in those most different from us, the presence of the Holy, so that in all our relationships,
both by what we have in common and by things in which we differ,
we may come to know more fully the blessedness of this creation.

Judge eternal, bringer of justice,
hear the cry of those who suffer under the lash of heartless political oppression;
those who languish in prisons and labor camps, untried or falsely condemned;
those whose bodies are shattered,
or whose minds are unhinged by torture or deprivation.
Meet them in their anguish and despair,
and kindle in them the light of hope,
that they may find rest in your love,
healing I your compassion
and faith in your divine mercy.

May we remember those who have lived—and those who have died—

to bring about a reign of justice, righteousness, and peace.

May they be for us life-sustaining leaves on the Tree of Life,

and may their names be written, forever, in your Book of Life,

in the pages of our human story,

and forever, deep with the hearts of all of us.

Amen.
