Walking together

Rev. Jeffrey Symynkywicz, June 7, 2009

We are never alone
as long as we walk with eyes open
on this rich and growing earth;
we are never poor
as long as we remember the treasure
of our mighty and wondrous birth.

We always plead for more
and then some—riches, friends,
cheap and plastic trappings
of the world;
when all we need, truly,
is to open our arms wide to life.

When we open our arms,

open our spirits,
(and keep our eyes wide open)
then life engages life,
spirit sparks spirit,

 and hope swells in our hearts and souls—
then this plain old world
becomes an enchanted garden once again.

When a spirit of expectation guides us,
we move at last
(and history does, too)
toward the fullness of our new vision;
the angle we assume changes everything,
and gratitude is always the most profound
means of transformation

in these human lives we lead.
