Our ancestors have given us many things. Some of these gifts are valuable treasures, which continue to empower us, though those who gave the gifts are now long gone. Other gifts which we have received may have been valuable to our ancestors, but are no longer valuable to us. They may even be hurtful to men, women, and children at this time in the Earth’s life.
We have, deep within us, the power to look inside ourselves and discover these gifts, and name them. We have the power to look, feel, touch, and sort through the treasures that lie within our souls…
Our ancestors gave us fear of the night. They needed it to survive, but it blocks us, and so we let it go…
Our ancestors held men and women in slavery. They would like to give us the belief still that some people are better than others, but we refuse to accept that belief, and here and now, we cast it into the fire…
May we take the time we need to look within. May we find for ourselves those gifts you no longer need. May we name them, and imagine ourselves casting them into the fire of history.
May we let go of them, and let them be transformed into the energy we need to change—to change ourselves, to save our Earth. Take a moment now, and search for these things; and in your mind, bring your gifts to the fire…
This day, and all days, may we also remember the sweet and precious gifts our ancestors have given us: the gift of a free faith; the gift of strength of character; the blessing of a sense of humor, or a love of nature… These gifts—and so many more-- are even more wonderful and splendid than the many facets of a precious jewel. Indeed, they are the jewels of our spirits.
Now, with these gifts of the spirit, and with the energy we claim in letting go of the limitations of the past, may we go forward and become agents of love, healing, and justice on this beautiful planet.
