A Prayer for Coming of Age Sunday

Rev. Jeffrey Symynkywicz, May 25, 2008

In spite of all our theological nuance,
and the unique perspective each of us brings
to looking at the world of the spirit,
this is the bottom line for us--
the one point from which there can be no turning back:

All Earth is sacred space,
every place we walk
and move and stand.
The outward and inner are united
in one total, living whole.
We are part of the web of creation;
we are part of one another.

Each one of us,
young as we are, old as we are,
wherever we are along the way of our journeys,
are part and parcel of this Earth;
we are woven fine for all time
in the lives of one another.

Remember this always, my two young friends:
This old world will need to hear from you;
this world needs the contribution you will make
to strengthening our bruised and tattered web.
And the world needs you right now,
in all your energy and joy and spirit,
as much as it ever will

So as your journeys unfold
may your paths be blest;
and as you your pathless and wild ways,
may you turn to bless the world, as well.

So my friends,
be patient, have faith, wait for your season;
but stretch those roots down through
this holy ground;
stretch those wings up toward
the vastness of space,
toward the heaven you will build
each day of a life well-lived.

Amen.
