Together

Rev. Jeffrey Symynkywicz, February 24, 2008

The secret lies in that word—together.

Alone, we are but bafflements to one another;
together, we unlock the door of glories and mysteries.

When we honor the course of all the others
we meet and greet along this way,
neither ignoring their stories as insignificant,
nor imposing our way upon theirs,
we kindle deep inner sparks of imagination.
We broaden these stooped shoulders of ours,
deepen our inner characters, and fan to flame
the fire that burns at our hearts’ core.

Then—together-- we will know then that we are alive
and not mere walking shadows;

Then—together—we will know the glory of our being in this place.

When the glory and mystery of community sweeps in
and transforms our sober prose into the brilliant poetry
of truly struggling, falling, failing, living, leaping, dancing
upon this Earth, then our life’s song becomes a living celebration
of every joy and pain we’ve ever known.

And this little community, so fragile and small,
becomes a living star; a truly heavenly, spiritual home.
