Be The Change

Rev. Jeffrey Symynkywicz, June 3, 2007

It is one thing to pray
for a miraculous hand to heal us;
but if we do not prepare the way,
and open wide the door of the soul,
the Spirit will have no place to move,
and so no healing will take place.

It is another thing indeed
to rise up out of one’s chair,
and turn and make those changes
that most need changing.
When we move, God moves too,
in ways more amazing and full of promise
than ours could ever be.

So, the first step then
is to acknowledge our weakness,
and know that we must become one with a power
greater than any of us
if we, and this old world of ours, are ever to be saved.

But the next step we take
celebrates our power, deep inside,
to work as channels of God’s love
and transformation, whenever we choose
to do God’s work of love and justice
and make beautiful again the face of the world.

We must be the change we would see,
and follow in the footsteps of great souls
who, letting loose all fear, gained everything in return;
who, knowing the power of their powerlessness,
turned and magnified the very soul of the universe.
