Just as the dawn of the new morn,
the sunrise--
just as the hand of God transforms
the night to day, and darkness into light--
so the sun can rise in us, in all of us:
New light can shine,
in the golden glow of our great change of heart.
A conversion that does not asks us
to forsake who we are;
nor to launch a holy war against
our bodies, minds, and senses;
but which invites us,
sometimes gently, sometimes decisively,
to join in life’s great feast
and take our places
in the ministry of love.
A conversion which calls us away
from quick fix gratification
and worldly success,
to a deeper realm of the spirit
where every thing means everything;
whose road is not easy,
but whose burdens are light
and whose hope is supreme.
So the light rises slowly,
within and without:
not casting away the darkness,
but illumining it;
leading us to discover at last
the miracle of our inner mystery;
the wonders that lies inside us;
redeeming the darkness of our souls
with the healing touch of life.
