Like drops of rain, grace falls

Like drops of rain, grace falls
in every living, breathing moment of our lives,
watering these barren souls of ours,
and bringing to flower new miracles
of life ever-abundant and holy.

If we run from grace, seeking shelter
under the ever-convenient lean-to of modern life,
covering our heads with man-made caps and umbrellas,
lest the rain spoil our affected image,
don’t be surprised if the rain stops
and God goes off elsewhere instead.

But free and open to the rain,
like the children we are,
we run barefoot through puddles
of grace and holiness,
splashing one another
with God’s love;
reveling in the gracious wetness
of it all;
soaked to the bone
by holiness;
swimming deep and carefree
in the eternal sea
of these endless living moments
of this amazing, glorious life.
