It is in the emptiness inside
that God has the most room to grow.
It is in our deepest hunger
that we may be fed the greatest feast.
It is in knowing what we don’t know
that Holy Wisdom can pitch
her widest, most-knowing tent.
When the ego ceases,
the soul begins to soar.
When God closes a window,
the Spirit opens a door.
It is when all has been taken
that we truly learn to give--
and in letting go of life
that we truly start to live;
and in letting go of life,
we truly start to live.
So as we grow older,
and watch as the vast train of years
trails longer and longer, steadily behind us,
we come to know first hand the truth
of all that Life has offered;
so we learn to accept these gifts
gracefully but not too eagerly,
with a hand that holds
but never grasps or clings:
for we know even in our hearts,
that all this, too, shall fade and pass away
in the timeless, deathless glow
of Eternity’s new-born day.
