The World Is Waiting

Rev. Jeffrey Symynkywicz, February 27, 2005

The world is waiting
for us to touch it softly.
The world is waiting
for us to guide the change.

We do not know our power,
most of us (except perhaps those
who bathe in the power of others,
commanding armies to march
where they themselves
would never dare to tread).

Our power (the power that comes
from within) is humble:
slow to anger, yes; but too slow at times
to act, and know its deeper truth.

We can transform the moment
in which we live, and in so doing,
begin to change the world.
We can live in truth (hard as that might seem,
its costs pale when compared to the price
of giving oneself away endlessly
to the forces of death all around us).

This is the miracle of our birth,
the miracle of our being here:
that in our radical dependence,
our utter insignificance,
we are called to uniqueness and power
as well—

Called to live our lives;
Called to share our gifts;
Called to love one another,
in the continual shedding of our old skins;
in the continual sacrifice of old lives
for new.
