Faith Opens Our Eyes

Rev. Jeffrey Symynkywicz, February 20, 2005

Faith opens our eyes to the angels,
those divine messengers that flap and fly
all around us, bringing us glad tidings
of all we could ever yearn for,
of everything for which we hunger.

With our eyes shut, our hearts closed,
this world seems dark and drear;
a trial at best; living hell at worst;
always full of the most severe chastisements.

But faith opens these eyes of ours,
and sets these hearts to beating once again;
it is faith which whispers in our ears
that life can be worth living.

Faith rips open the sealed envelope of grace
and lets all of God’s miracles cascade out;
it is faith which fills our senses, and awakens in us
the most amazing chances for oneness and reconciliation.

A great man once said:
“Faith lights the lamp,
which is kept burning
through the oil of love.”

Faith lights within us the holy fire,
which reaches consummation
only with our love for this Earth
and all of its blessed, holy creatures.
