Feel the Stillness of the Air

Rev. Jeffrey Symynkywicz, February 6, 2005

Feel the stillness of the air,
the quietness over all,
the peace in your soul;
feel it, hear it, and let it
hold you forever;
let it hold you in its everlasting arms,
forever, in this instant.

That peace is where we are
right now,
and not off somewhere
in some tumultuous crowd;
amidst the loud and garish spectacle
of modern life,
full of noise and rage,
claiming much too high a price,
and guaranteeing so little in return.

This is our deepest truth;
this is the ground which
upholds and sustains us;
this the richest reality of all,
which banishes in a flash
(a noiseless flash)
the dreary production
of all that buying and selling,
claiming and grabbing,
overseeing and overpowering
which seems so much the tenor of these times.

The Spirit drifts in
as quiet as the lightest breeze,
as refreshing as the dewfall,
and turns off all the whirring, whirling,
deafening machines; it closes the window
on all the outside noisiness,
and finds a hallowed place
deep inside your soul:
a place to pause; take comfort,
and breathe that deep peace
abiding and true.

Take time.
Live life.
Invite the Spirit in.
And let that invitation change your soul
forever.
