A Prayer for Peace

Rev. Jeffrey Symynkywicz, June 13, 2004 and March 25, 2007

The only thing in life as relentless
as the change which stirs continually
and makes this world seem ever new,
is the gentleness and innocence
of our kindly care, when we dare
to touch the earth and live by our ideals.

We have been deluded into believing
that it’s the noisy ones who have the ear
of God, while all along the gentlest whisper—
perhaps merely a sigh, or a beating heart—
is quite enough to gain the Spirit’s attention
and remake life in that image of Love.

We have been deluded into thinking
that it’s the massive force, the mighty army,
the leader’s brutal command that compels
transformation; while they will be all gone
sooner or later, and only love will abide;
and the truest revolution is the soul’s.

Consider, next time you stare in the mirror,
which image you are seeing: your true self,
created in the image of the Divine,
or a mere delusion of what the world wants you to see.

Live your life in the reflection
of the holy child who stands before you then;
live your life in such a way
that it blesses this world in which we live,
and blesses you back with the most profound
gifts of the Spirit: gifts of grace, gifts of joy,
gifts of Peace for all the children
of our Mother Earth.
