Nature moves wild and free,
not always with joy perhaps,
but always naturally;
never adding to its distraction
by the complications of imagined
spectres that haunt its way
and lead it off course
in a drear and artificial direction.
So it can be within us as well:
we can take what life affords us,
joy and pain, and bless it all
as beautiful and true.
We can sense the loveliness
in the natural unfolding of it all;
we can meet all that life offers
with a real smile and with real tears.
There is at the heart of creation
profound truth, divine wisdom.
Do these hearts of ours
beat with anything less true?
We have eyes to see
and hands to hold; senses
so profound as to be miracles themselves--
if we but grasp what miracles we truly are!
We need not merely stumble on,
along these man-made pathways;
we can, in every moment, feel ourselves
held aloft by the deep and free winds of nature,
our model and our guide.
May these old hearts of ours beat at last
with the most divine of affirmations:
Children of the Earth are we,
Children of God, every one,
daughters and sons of a wild and holy spirit.
