What is Truth?

Truth hurts, they say;
but truth heals as well.
And on the plain between those truths
all our hopes and fears do dwell.

There is a tendency in us at times
to rewrite our own history.
But scrubbing away all that hurts
keeps locked away our holy mystery.

Better to open the soul’s channel
and let truth and love flow free,
rather than sail seas of false bliss
in a boat full of holes, endlessly.

For false bliss can smear our tongues
like some overly-sugared sweet;
better to walk down truth’s sometimes bitter road,
the magnificence of life’s great caravan to meet.
