Windows Toward Heaven

Rev. Jeffrey Symynkywicz, January 25, 2004

We are, each one of us, windows toward heaven
for these, our fellow pilgrims on this Earth.
We are the divine mirror, the clearest reflection
of God’s grace, divine love, eternal bliss.

It is hard, I know, to imagine these little souls of ours,
tiny men and women that we are,
as such a divine ambassadors;
but the truth of heaven and earth is so:
if God is to smile out at this creation,
it must be through us.

We are the holy mirror, direct gaze, clear eyes,
through which others can glimpse their deepest worth.
Each small and simple song of gratitude we sing
one another is so much more than we realize;
so much more than it might appear.

Such a moment is the miracle of spirit greeting spirit--
of holy sparks kindling a new and holy birth.
It is the miracle of love, writ large within our little beings;
in each human touch is encoded the sacred, holy kiss
that brought the universe to birth, and blest us from the first.
