We Are Never Alone

Rev. Jeffrey Symynkywicz, November 9, 2003

We are never alone
as long as we walk with eyes open
on this rich and fulsome earth;
we are never poor
as long as we remember the treasure
of our mighty and wondrous birth.

We plead for more
and then some—riches, friends,
cheap and plastic trappings
of the world;
when all we need to do, truly,
is open our arms wide to life.

We open our arms
(and keep our eyes open)
and life engages life:
spirit sparks spirit, and
hope swells in our hearts and souls—
then this plain old world
becomes enchanted once again.

When expectancy guides us,
we move at last
(and history does as well)
toward the fullness of our new vision;
the angle we assume changes everything,
and gratitude is the most revolutionary
transformer of these human lives we lead.
