The Helmet of Right Vision

Here, dear friends, is my advice to you
in these troubled times in which we live:
Put on the helmet of right vision,
and see this world as it truly is--
as you would have it be.
Consider this:
What if our visions of all we desire
for our dear planet earth were true and real
right now? Suppose it was only our own
laziness and lukewarmness
that kept us from realizing our dreams?

To realize our visions, we must live them--
right now-- in the life of the world.
Who cares if the world goes along or not?
Since when has pleasing the world
been the champion’s cup we seek?

So, go through life in this deeper way:
seeing the world always in relation
to how we would have it be;
knowing always in a glance
the joy that lies in waiting
at the heart of the present pain
whenever life is transformed in an image of love.
(Knowing the truth that abides
when we glimpse the world and discern
the deeper reasons for it.)
Locked on that vision, may we move at last,
slowly, surely, borne on winds of Spirit,
toward the Great Reign of peace and justice
which is already here within our midst,
just waiting to be born.
