The Preciousness of Who We Are

Rev. Jeffrey Symynkywicz, June 2, 2002

Though one be silver and the other gold,
both are precious in the eyes of God.
Why judge, then, these lives of ours,
though part be filled with the business of doing,
and the other in deep repose, contemplating all
but doing little?

It is the substance of which we are made,
these precious elements: and though human reason
judges and scores, placing a dollar sign before them all,
in deeper reality, of course,
all are sacred, so all are dear:
God does not make dross, only we do.

So, take the strands in hand and weave your pattern.
Neglect none, for those that seem most common
may be most dear: remember-- the stone
which the builder rejected became the corner stone.
Those dark and hidden portions within ourselves
may well beckon our most genuine liberation.
