A world that has changed
requires new eyes to look out in hope
for all that Life has given;
it requires new hearts
opened wide in gratitude
for the gift of every blessed moment.
If the world really is to change,
and not merely stumble about
in an even more terror-filled darkness,
we will need to feel the gift of new life,
the wonders of possibility,
the bounty and blessing of change
hidden in each instant.
That means for all of us right here
(no less than for those “out there”
whom we’re not sure of)
a new and endless letting go and taking on;
it means a willingness to love that
in ourselves and others
which we may have hated in the past.
We cannot merely still run around stuck
in the comfortable ruts of experience;
we must look out upon a world made new
by terror’s flash, transformed by
God’s even greater love-- and change!
We must learn to move as one with the endless current of Life.
That means:
The crooked shall be made straight
(and the all-too-straight shall discover the joy of crookedness);
the quiet among us will learn to speak up;
those who pontificate will learn the prize of silence;
the timid will take up arms for justice;
and, when the day is right,
the warrior will see the power in putting his down at last.
