Reflecting the Love of Life

Rev. Jeffrey Symynkywicz, September 9, 2001

If you want to feel the love that is all around,
then live it;
if you want to receive the gift that life has to offer,
then give it.
If you want to be blessed
by this world and all the souls
who dwell here:
then bless them, love them,
care and caress them
just as much as your heart and soul
and history will allow.

When we walk as living candles upon the Earth,
we bless the world and cast a light so fine,
we bring a little light to a world that needs it;
we bring a little warmth to souls that yearn for it.
We reflect back God’s love
by loving our neighbor as ourselves:
accepting eagerly the cares of a friend;
holding so close that soul knitted tight to yours;
striving for justice even when the cost is high.

If we do not live these holy acts,
then the colors fade, the flowers wither,
and the world continues to cast about
in the cold and darkness.

So, it all comes down to us, to each one of us,
not in any bold actions or grand and eloquent plans,
but in simply living these lives as we envision
the rest of the world living them--
living these lives in the light of that Holy Benediction
which has held us close and blessed us from the first.
