Prayer For Our Church

Rev. Jeffrey Symynkywicz, April 22, 1001 and September 26, 2004

O Thou Spirit Universal, which the people of the world call by many true names:

Abide with us still this day, as we gather to join with the past-- to re-member-- and to repay a small part of the debt we owe to our history as a community of faith.

We have recalled once again some of the proud words and noble deeds of the past. May we once again rededicate ourselves to our deepest aspirations and our most noble endeavors.

May we worship in word and song that which is most lovely and true and beautiful;
May we heed the call of prophetic preaching and concern for the common good;
May we contribute in our own ways to the cultivation of knowledge, the arts, and all that glorifies and uplifts the human spirit;
May we dedicate ourselves to the nurture of our children and all children; to the comfort of the afflicted and oppressed; to the ennobling of our lives together in our communities and on this planet;
May we defend, hopefully and courageously, the dignity of every woman and man, of all beliefs and races and lifestyles, without regard to gender or class or nation or race.

With a special place in our hearts for those whom we have honored this day, and to the loving memory of all those who have come before is in this household of faith, and with deepest celebration for the many friends now joined with us in this adventure of the spirit, may we rededicate the work of our hearts and hands this day.

Amen.
