Which god?

Rev. Jeffrey Symynkywicz, April 16, 2000

When we accept with open hearts
the sublime, eternal love of our Mother-Father God,
we open a hundred thousand blessed gates
leading to the heaven we can build here on earth.

But when we reject that love, turn away,
and retreat back into the false gods of petty ego,
the gates slam shut and disappear
back into a vast wall of hatred, poverty, and injustice.

We are made with the chance to walk both sides of the wall:
to reach out to the universe or to retreat back to smallness;
to hoard everything we have or to reach out fully in compassion.
The divinity that is within us lets us choose.

But which god dwells in our soul's core?
A heavenly Mother-Father of love eternal;
or a small, evil sprite that treats his little piece of land as an unholy empire
and all brothers and sisters on earth as hired hands?

May we choose a God of Life
that we may know life,
and come to serve at last
this earth, our home.
