What Gifts We Hold!

Rev. Jeffrey Symynkywicz, February 13,2000

O, what gifts we hold!
What gifts we are!
Within our hearts and souls
there is wonder and creativity abundant
to write a few words lovely enough
to make another person weep a long flow of tears;
to say a few words joyful enough
to make a friend erupt in a Vesuvius of laughter;
to reach out and with the barest touch
send a current of sparks leaping
from one heart to another in a blessed arc of love.

These are our gifts, fashioned deep within our souls:
we cannot live in the presence of the Almighty all the days of our lives, perhaps;
but we can live constantly, with every breath, in the presence of our own gifts.
And every moment we don't is a kind of living death
in which we feel alienated, separated from that which is our lives.

So, remember the temple within
and walk through town that way.

Remember the Creator, the Builder, the Jokester, the Lover, the Friend
who dwells within you
and let that face shine.
Transform this place with your presence
and watch as the light steadily grows
like an ever-expansive daybreak
till all the world is transformed in your image--
Or at least, this blessed hour is.
