The Free Market of Ideas of the First Parish Universalist Church of Stoughton offers
a wide variety of programs of enrichment, education, and enlightenment on an extensive
array of spiritual, cultural, and social issues.
Through our Free Market of Ideas, we at First Parish seek to reach out to our communities
and raise the level of public discourse on matters of common concern, as well as
to introduce to the general public ideas and concepts that might not be readily
available elsewhere.
Programs of the Free Market of Ideas are held at the church on a regular basis,
and are always free of charge. You are always most welcome to attend any of these
events that might be of interest to you! Watch this space for upcoming programs,
or if you would like to be on our Free Market of Ideas mailing list, please
contact us.

Two intriguing programs with our
member, Debbie Allen—
the noted author, Deborah
Hill!

A Look
at
The War of
1812
In this presentation our own author, Debbie Allen (aka
Deborah Hill) will help us observe
the bi-centennial of The War of 1812 with a talk about how it affected
New
England. According to her
research, as far as the Yankee was concerned,
Britain wasn’t the enemy. The enemy was the Federal government,
and secession was in the air-- with good reason. In the process of writing her
newly edited and published novel, This is
the House, Debbie uncovered lots of fascinating new details about this often
overlooked period in America’s history. She will share these insights as part of
this very special Free Market of Ideas program
