The
purpose of the Roots and Wings program is to prepare teenagers in grades 9
through 12 in the congregation for full church participation and to create
a personal awareness of what it means to be a church member and an adult
Unitarian Universalist.
The goals of this program are:
- To prepare participants for church membership.
- To assist participants in clarifying their own religious beliefs and
religious identity.
- To help our youth understand what it means to be a Unitarian
Universalist, how Unitarian Universalism is unique from other
religions, and what its contribution is to humankind.
- To provide opportunities for youth to interact with adults so that
meaningful relationships can be developed, and to show our youth that
adult members care about their thoughts and feelings.
- To provide opportunities for independent thinking, accepting responsibility,
making decisions, exploring values, and serving
this congregation and the larger community.
Youth completing this program will gain a deepened knowledge of
Unitarian Universalism beliefs, history, and organization and will engage
in a venture of personal religious development. All young people who
complete the Roots and Wings program will be eligible to sign the
membership book and become associate members of First Parish Universalist
Church. |
