Adults and older youth who are in leadership roles are in a position of
stewardship and play a key role in fostering the spiritual development of
both individuals and the community. It is, therefore, especially important
that those in leadership positions be well qualified to provide the
special nurture, care, and support that will enable children and youth to
develop a positive sense of self and a spirit of independence and
responsibility. The relationship between young people and their leaders
must be one of mutual respect if the positive potential of their
relationship is to be realized.
One common theme in our philosophy of religious education stresses that
we provide a safe, secure place where our children can freely express
themselves and interact with other children and adults without fear.
Adults and youth in leadership roles play an integral part in creating
this secure environment and providing for the safety of our children.
Staff, volunteer leaders, committee members, and families are informed of
this philosophy and agree to it before assuming their role. In cases where
any behavior should occur which would undermine the safety and well-being
of our children, appropriate action will be taken.
